Bio

My work focuses on the history of philosophy, with an emphasis on Kant, German Idealism and 20th Century Continental philosophy. I am particularly interested in how thinkers in this tradition explain the possibility of knowledge and value. I try to put figures in these traditions in touch with concerns of contemporary philosophers, especially contemporary epistemology. I have taught at the University of Chicago (where I obtained my PhD), the Art Institute at Chicago, Amherst College, and Yale University. I am currently teaching at the University of Houston. In addition, I have started the non-profit Adventures in Thinking, which attempts to make philosophy available to high school students (especially those who are under resourced).
